Advanced anti-wear (AW) hydraulic fluids combine a high-quality base oil with additives such as zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) or ashless phosphorus-sulfur chemistry. These additives form a sacrificial protective film on metal surfaces, which prevents metal-to-metal contact in pumps, valves, and motors operating above roughly 140 bar (2,000 psi). Choosing the right AW fluid, with the correct viscosity grade, cleanliness level, and seal compatibility, is one of the most effective ways to extend component life and avoid costly downtime in high-pressure hydraulic systems.
