Hydraulic seals used in mining equipment differ from standard industrial seals primarily in material composition and design tolerances built to withstand extreme abrasive contamination, heavy shock loading, and continuous high-pressure cycling. Mining seals typically use harder, more chemically resistant elastomers such as hydrogenated nitrile (HNBR) or polyurethane, feature reinforced wiper and buffer seal configurations to keep out rock dust and slurry, and are engineered with wider tolerance for extrusion under pressure spikes than seals used in general industrial hydraulics.
